But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. —1 Peter 3:15-16

There are many ways that we as humans go about achieving things. We can use our minds or other organs…but seems the heart, where we express love, that we must set a part Christ as Lord, according to Peter.

Setting a part Christ as Lord is an essential element of our faith, to acknowledge that this Savior is not only going to take away our sins but also rule over our lives in a sovereign way, as Lord.

Once we do this, we have a responsibility to share this truth and this hope – but do so in a way that is reflecting of His work in us, with gentleness and respect.

This verse goes back to Paul’s teaching of being an aroma of Christ, to let His fragrance spread to others. Let us deliver Christ into others by our nature, by living in the fruits of the Spirit, and many will come to know Christ in us and know that there is a better way of living.

Praise: That the Lord calls us to show a more gentle existence to display His qualities to others.

Prayer: That we harness the essence of Christ in order to truly be an example for others.

Prayer for Today: We thank You for this day, as everyday. We thank You for the wonders that You provide to us in all aspects of this world. No matter where we are, on a ship or on an island, let us remember Your calling, and Your essence, so that others see You in us and it is not by our words but by our heart that they may be drawn to You. Continue to soften and shape us Lord, for Your calling. In Jesus Name, Amen.
