Poetic Creation of Humanity
- Adam Cole // February 27, 2009
11 Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. 12 For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God. —1 Corinthians 11:11-12
God not only created the universe, which is an amazing feat, but He did it poetically – by making man in His own image; and out of the rib of that man, He created woman. God then developed woman in a way that through her, all men and women would be brought to life. Everything comes from God!
Paul tries to capture this poetry in the passage above and by doing so, he notes just how directly tied a man and woman are to each other – and yet puts it all in perspective that “all things are from God” to teach us that no matter what, we are all equal as humans, products of His creation. We get the message that man and woman were made for one another, they were blessings.
Earlier in this chapter, verse 3, Paul explains that while equal creatures, there is a necessity of hierarchal order in how one submits to the other: But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
What we see there is that man leads over woman spiritually, but within man must live Christ, he must be obedient to the Spirit of Christ, just as Christ was obedient to God in carrying out the will of the Father in going to the cross. Ultimately, then, our aim should always be to grow closer to God – and while man has spiritual ‘rank’ over woman in that call, it is God’s perfect creation of man and woman that allows the ‘unit’ to move in perfect semblance with the Creator.
Praise: That God created man and woman in a divinely poetic and purposeful way.
Prayer: That men and women see and understand each other as God would have them to, to let each understand how vital they are to each other.
Prayer for Today: Dear Lord – We thank You for today. We thank You that we can find ourselves in Your presence, even in the little moments. We thank You for the perfectness and poetry of creation, that woman came from man and man comes from woman, and that You have inspired a relationship of the two that leads to serving and seeking You to a deep extent. We pray over the relationships of man and woman – may they be holy and righteous and truly seek after You with a full heart. We love You, Lord, and give You our all. In Jesus Name, Amen.
