He Uplifts Us

11 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God. —Psalm 42:11
Life gets the best of us sometimes…in a way that we lose the peace, we lose the essence of joy that Christ instilled in us when He allowed us to be a new creation in Him. A number of things can trigger our self-pity and despair, be it getting stuck in a traffic jam, losing a job, or even worse, losing a loved one. But, by being in God, being in His truths and His comforts, we need to retain the fruits of the Spirit no matter what.
This idea is focused on is Psalm 42 and 43, when the psalmist proclaims: Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?
The psalmist clearly recognizes, as if he were an outsider looking in, that his soul is hurting when it doesn’t need to be…because of God’s great mercy, grace, and all the rest.
The psalmist then ministers to his own soul: Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.
Let us say the same things, to recognize when we are down and then call to God to bring us up again. For our soul longs for the joy and peace that He promises and provides – we just need to let the Lord, Jesus, enter in to fill us with those things which we long for.
Praise: That God is our hope and help.
Prayer: That we do not let our souls be downcast, but lifted up by the living Lord.
Prayer for Today: Lord, we thank You that you are able to give us so much in this life, that You are able to take us from the depths of despair, and give us renewed life. We pray that You continue to shine in us, to make our burdens light, and our souls made for rejoicing. We praise You, praise You with voices that stretch to the heavens. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
